It’s definitely getting chillier on the bike in the mornings and evenings which is a sure sign that Autumn is well and truly here. So, time to sort out the winter wardrobe and make sure you’ve got a couple of decent long sleeve jerseys to hand. But, as we always say, this doesn’t mean you have to go spending lots of cash, especially with Christmas just around the corner!
So this weekend, we thought we’d give this B’Twin 500 women’s long sleeve top from Decathlon a spin to see how it fairs for the very reasonable, currently-discounted, price tag of £17.99.
First thing to point out is that the £17.99 version is only available in pink – the blue, black and grey versions are all £19.99 which to be fair is still awesome value for money but if you’re into your pink then the deal is even better.
This is one of those tops that just feels really nice to put on – it’s got a very soft, fleece inside which instantly feels lovely and cozy against the skin. The arms are nice and long (a real must for me!) and it has a double cuff that I really like. The body is also a really good length so it tucks nicely under your bum. I was surprised how grippy the trim at the bottom was so I was keen to see how much it kept in place when I was moving around in the saddle.
So, time to get out on the bike. Straight away I noticed the arm length was perfect for me – I get so annoyed when sleeves ride up when you’re in an outstretched position so it was really nice to still have the cuffs around my hands. The top was warm and comfortable to ride in – to be honest, it wasn’t a particularly cold day but there was still a chill in the air. I ended up taking it off after a while as I was heating up quite a bit which suggested it would do well in lower temperatures. The trim did its job well, keeping the jersey in place with no riding-up.
There was plenty of pocket space to carry my stuff, although I could have done with a zipped one for my keys as I’m always worried about them being thrown out. They were still there though when I got back as the pockets are quite deep.
The only other thing I’d have liked is for the front of the neck (where the zip is) to be as high as the rest of the neck. When I first set off, it was a bit chilly and it would have been nice to have a bit more warmth at the front of the neck. It’s not a major issue as I always carry a buff anyway and to be honest this is me being seriously picky here! Other than that, I loved it!
Re the sizing, I’m a size 8 in most clothes and this was a small which was perfect for me.
This top is currently in the clearance section on the Decathlon website and there is limited stock. When I looked earlier, there was only S and L sizes available. But if you’re a medium and like your tops on the baggy side (especially if you’re going to be wearing under layers in the winter, then it’s worth grabbing a large at this price!
